38th PSPB Bridge Tournament

XXXVIII PSPB Inter Unit Bridge Tournament, 2017-18 was organised by MRPL at MRPL Employees Club, Mangalore from 21st to 24th March 2018.

 

The valedictory and Prize distribution ceremony was held on 24th March 2018 at MRPL Employees Club, Mangaluru. Shri M Venkatesh, Director Refinery, MRPL gave away the trophies. Ms Vanita Kumar – GGM - OMC Sales and Shri BHV Prasad, GGM - HR were the other dignitaries present during the prize distribution ceremony.

The Bridge tournament was held in three categories, namely, Team Championship, Board A Match and Pairs events. ONGC, IOC, BPCL, HPCL, NRL, IOC-AOD, OIL India and MRPL were the participating teams.

BPCL was the winner in the team championship, ONGC won the Board A Match and Shri Namit Sharma and Shri Alok Kumar of ONGC emerged as the Pair of the Tournament.

The tournament was organised hassle free by MRPL Organising Committee led by Shri Ajay Bhatia, GM – HR & Admin.

Shri Narashinga Rao, Chief Technical Director congratulated MRPL for successfully hosting the Tournament.

  

  

  

MRPL Recognised with Silver Medal by International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM)

Environment and Sustainability are important aspects of MRPL’s strategic priorities. We at MRPL recognize that increased focus on sustainability will create positive value for the company, especially in the light of a wider global transition towards clean energy and more stringent environment standards. We have made rapid progress in improving sustainability factors associated with our manufacturing facility.This emphasises our commitment to green manufacturing. Hence as a measuring yardstick in comparison to other industries, for the first time, we at MRPL subjected ourselves to a detailed "Priority Adapt onsite assessment survey" as part of India Green Manufacturing Challenge (IGMC) for the year 2017 organised by the International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM), a platform designed to recognize manufacturing firms that have shown consistent progress in improving sustainability factors associated to a manufacturing facility.

 

 

The award was received by Shri Sanjay Varma, Group General Manager (HSE & ISO) and Shri U V Aithal, General Manager (HSE & ISO) at a glittering ceremony in Chennai.

It is a matter of great pride and pleasure that MRPL has been recognized for its efforts with the “Silver medal” for the year 2017, which we see as a benchmark on which we aspire to build and stand shoulder to shoulder with other industry leaders at national level. This exercise was a great learning experience for MRPL and helped us also in identifying the areas of improvement. This is also a testament to our work towards saving the environment by adopting green manufacturing practices.

 

 

MRPL hosts PSPB Bridge Tournament

Inauguration Ceremony of 38th PSPB Bridge Tournament was held in MRPL Employees Club on 21.03.2018 in the morning.

 

Shri BHV Prasad, GGM-HR briefed about MRPL & Mangalore and welcomed the players and officials to the event.

Shri M Venkatesh, Director Refinery presided over the inaugural session and spoke about the challenges faced in the Bridge (trick taking card game) game and how to face them. He also briefed about the challenges in the oil sector. Let us all work with unity so as to overcome the challenges and face the competition put forth by the private sector, he remarked. Director Refinery also declared the 38th PSPB Bridge Tournament open.

Shri Ajay Bhatia, GM – HR & Admin proposed the vote of thanks. Shri Rudolph VJ Noronha, DGM – OM&S compered the programme and Ms Divya chanted the invocation.

Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), was set up as a registered society with the objective to encourage, develop, supervise, coordinate and organize various sports and games. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) is the Patron of the PSPB. There are 12 member organization of PSPB from Oil and Gas and related sectors. MRPL has got the opportunity to host Bridge Tournament for the year 2017-18. Teams from ONGC, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, Oil India, NRL and MRPL are the participants fielding their team in this Bridge tournament.

ONGC, IOCL and HPCL have players who represented India in the world championship. Few notable stars among them are Sandeep Karmarkar, Mrs Marianne Karmarkar, SureshBabu, Uday Bedekar, Smitha Gorlikar, Kaushik Vyas, B.Mehta and Amitra Roy.

 

 

 

MRPL’s Group Life Insurance cover helps deceased contract worker’s family

As a worker friendly initiative, MRPL has mandated all the contract agencies who are working with MRPL to cover their workers under Group Term Life Insurance (GTLI) of Rs 10 Lakhs each. The insurance covers 24/7 for both natural and accidental death. This was made compulsory with effect from 1.10.2016 as a safety net for the contract workers working in MRPL.

 

This has come as a saviour for the family of a contract worker who unfortunately met with an untimely death. Mr Vishwanath was employed as Cook in CISF Bachelors Mess, in CISF Township under M/s Nimbus Harbor Facilities Management Pvt Ltd. He had passed away on 23.11.2017 by heart failure due to low BP. As he was covered under the Insurance scheme mandated by MRPL, his family is getting the insurance amount. This is the first case where the insurance benefit of Rs 10 Lakhs was transferred to the family of a contract worker through GTLI scheme in MRPL.

A cheque of Rs 10 Lakhs was handed over to the spouse of Late Mr Vishwanath on 19th March 2018 by Shri H Kumar, Managing Director, MRPL in the presence of Shri M Venkatesh, Director Refinery and Shri AK Sahoo, Director Finance. The office bearers of MRPL Employees Union & MRPL Karmachari Sangha and senior management personnel were present during the occasion.

 

 

Special Vendor Development Programme for SC ST Vendors

A Special Vendor Development Programme for SC ST Vendors was organised by MRPL in Mangaluru on 07.03.2018 in association with MSME DI Mangaluru. More than 40 SC/ST entrepreneurs from all over Karnataka participated in the programme.

 

Shri. Gokuldas Nayak, Joint Director, DIC, D.K. District, Shri. Ajith Kamath Vice President, KSIA (Kanara Small Industries Association), Mangaluru, Shri. Socrates, Dy Director, MSME-DI, Mangaluru, Shri. G Nagaraj, Asst. Drirector – MSME. Mangaluru were the dignitaries who graced the occasion along with Shri. A Balaji, President MSSEWA and Senior officers from MRPL.

The Programme started in the morning with the MRPL theme song. Thereafter all the dignitaries joined hands to light the lamp. Shri. Praveen Pinto, Manager (Materials) delivered the welcome address. Shri V.J Venugopal, Chief Manager (Materials) presented an overview of the meet, opportunities available in PSUs like MRPL and the need for the Micro , Small and Medium Enterprises and especially from the special categories to participate in tenders and contribute and enhance GDP of the nation. He stressed that the MSME being a vibrant and dynamic sector is the largest job creator and helping in industrialisation of rural and backward areas.

Shri. Gokuldas Nayak, Joint Director, DIC, D.K. District lauded the efforts of MRPL. He specially mentioned that MRPL being a major PSU has contributed to the growth and prosperity of Mangalore region by generating a large secondary workforce of suppliers and contractors.

Shri. K Socrates, Dy Director, MSME-DI, spoke on the initiatives taken by MRPL and advised participants to make use of the benefits available to Micro & Small Enterprises in public procurement. Shri Udaykumar Bhat, Asst Director, MSME-DI, Mangaluru spoke about the MSMED Act 2006 and explained in detail the benefits of Public Procurement Policy, 2012 and grievance redressal related to payment issues faced by MSE vendors in public procurement.

Shri. Ajith Kamath Vice President, KSIA (Kanara Small Industries Association), Mangaluru spoke on how the special category vendors could partner and become competitive entrepreneurs.

Shri. A Balaji, President MSSEWA mentioned that conducting such programs helps in creating awareness amongst the vendors of the specialised category which will result in enhancing participation.

Shri. Vishal Wilfred Abreo, Engineer (Mechanical)-MM, gave a presentation on how the vendors can utilise the MRPL Web Portal. This includes how to search MRPL tenders and how to participate and submit bids in E-tenders. He also explained how vendors can register online with GeM portal to display their products and services.

This was followed by a very interactive open session. Many of the vendors sought details / clarifications on facilities / advantages available to MSME – SC/ST vendors and were apprised of the same. Further the vendors were informed that they can contact / visit MRPL any time as per their convenience for any matter.
