The Union Minister of State i/c for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the 4, 40,000 tonnes per annum, Polypropylene unit of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) at Mangaluru on 5th April 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pradhan also announced that a world-class Skill Development Centre will be set up in Mangaluru which will further accelerate the industrial development and usher in prosperity.
Shri H Kumar, Managing Director of MRPL said that the Polypropylene unit set up with an investment of Rs 1,803 crore, is a fitting response to the Prime Minister’s clarion call to #Make in India and it will give a competitive edge to India through forex savings and exports.
MRPL is the only company located in South India to cater to approximately 5 lakh tonne of polypropylene demand in the southern market.
Swachh Mangaluru. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Earlier in the day, Shri Pradhan participated in Swachh Mangaluru Shramdaan organised by Ramakrishna Mission with the support of MRPL and also handed over the keys to representatives of (1) Govt. PUC, Bokkapatna (2) Govt. PUC Chellairu (3) Govt. High school (Urdu), Bunder (4) Govt. High School, Nadugodu (5) Govt. PUC (High School Section), Mulky (6) Govt. High school, Kenjar who got brand new toilets from MRPL , under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
#Give it up subsidy
The Minister also kicked off the #give it campaign with 10 prominent citizens namely, (1)Shri Abhay Chandra Jain, Minister – Youth Services, Sports & Fisheries, GOK (2) Shri Ganesh Karnik, Hon’ble MLC and Opposition Chief Whip, Vidhan Parishad, GOK (3) Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP D.K. district, (4) Shri Mohiuddin Bava, MLA, Mangalore North (5) Shri Ganesh Hosabettu, Ex Mayor, Mangalore (6) Shri Tilakraj Krishnapur (7) Shri H Kumar, MD MRPL (8) Smt Lekshmi M Kumaran, Regional Co-ordinator WIPs MRPL (9) Shri Keshava Kumar K, President MSA and (10) Shri Sudhendu, President MEAvoluntarily giving up their subsidies.
Shri Pradhan urged more employees of MRPL to give up cooking gas subsidy , that will amount to an annual donation of Rs1500 per head, but will go a longway to help the Govt in providing the much needed subsidy to the deserving poor, and become a model for others.
