Constitution Day Celebrations - 2018

The Constitution Day Programme was held in MRPL Employees Recreation Centre on 26.11.2018. Shri BHV Prasad, GGM-HR welcomed the august gathering by briefing the audience about commemoration of the Constitution day. The GOI declared in the year 2015 that 26 November will be celebrated as "Constitution Day" since that year was the 125th birth anniversary year of DR. B. R. Ambedkar (14 April 1891 – 6 December 1956), who is known as the architect of the Indian constitution.

 

The preamble of the Constitution was read out aloud in English, Hindi and Kannada during the function.

Shri Al Rafeeq Moideen, GM, Law while speaking about the significance of the day said that there are large diversities in this country but the document which keeps us together is our constitution. He added that the constitution begins by saying ‘we the people of India’ so we have given ourselves this constitution and we follow and obey our constitution.

Shri Kadloor Satyanarayacharya, Principal District and Sessions Judge, DK, and Chairman of the District Legal Service Authority spoke on the occasion and offered salutations to all the great personalities of our country who contributed to make this great constitution. He emphasised on the importance of Article 39 A of the Indian Constitution which speaks about Equal Justice and Free legal aid and that the state should ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic and other disabilities. He read out few fundamental duties mentioned in article 51A of our constitution especially that the citizens to develop scientific temper, humanism etc., and that awareness of these duties should be created in our children.

Hon’ble Mr.Justice Krishna Shripad Dixit, Judge, High Court of Karnataka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the key note address. He said that in comparison to USA our constitution is long and has undergone more amendments. Whether it is short or long, our constitutional ethos are stronger and more withstanding because of the inherent values of the people of the nation. The famous Roman Empire fell because they did not address how to bring up their children and building up of the right values in them. He emphasised on the valuable contribution of Dr. B. R Ambedkar in drafting the constitution and added that Dr. Ambedkar himself was reluctant to take any credit and always highlighted the contributions of his fellow draftsmen. The greatness of Dr. Ambedkar lies in the fact that even though he got many opportunities to serve in higher position in developed nations of that time, he chose to stay back in India to serve and contribute to the welfare of the poor and downtrodden. The Justice also reminded the contribution made by Shri B.N Rao, a Mangalorean, who was advisor to the Constituent assembly. Our country is known for tolerance that is the reason many religious leaders came to India, he said. Shri Winston Churchill was against giving Independence to India because he feared that the power will be misused but we have proved him wrong, he said. Historically there were many universities in our country and this land is a land of knowledge, he said. With knowledge we can bring honour to our constitution, he said he wished one to be knowledgeable and happy. We should learn lessons from our history and we should have a direction to succeed, he concluded.

Shri M Venkatesh, Managing Director, MRPL spoke and said that we generally believe that we should work with natural justice, do good and right things and the rest will be taken care. It is the judiciary that comes to the rescue when things happen against the spirit of the constitution, he said. Our constitution has withstood 70 years and 101 amendments and last one being the GST, he recollected. He read out major amendments of our constitution and said that these were required to keep pace with the changing times and situations. He also recalled some of the major judgements and said that judiciary can strike down any incorrect decision by the government and that is the beauty of our constitution, he remarked.

The event was graced by the presence of District Judges and other Judges of Dakshina Kannada, Managluru.

Mrs. Lekshmi M Kumaran, CGM(HR) introduced the Chief Guest of the day Hon’ble Mr.Justice Krishna Shripad Dixit to the gathering.

Shri Praful Mohan, Chief Manager – Legal proposed the vote of thanks and Ms Pavithra from HSE Dept compered the event. Ms Aparna M Nayak, Executive – Finance chanted the invocation.

MRPL-NMPT Integrity Club Seminar - Chilume Bhavya Bharathadatta

As a part of Vigilance Awareness Week, MRPL organised ‘Chilume Bhavya Barathadatta’, a one day seminar on integrity for children on 5th November 2018. Total 148 students from 8th Std to PUC from 14 neighbouring schools and colleges representing 14 integrity clubs participated in the programme. The integrity clubs were formed to inculcate ethics and values in the young minds. The seminar was held jointly with New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) and in association with the Rotary Club of Mangalore Port town at JNC Hall NMPT Mangalore. The students of 14 schools and colleges, Rotarians, their family members, media persons, all about 250 people participated actively.

 

The program began with Lighting of lamp by the dignitaries. Mr. Chandrashekar V Totad, President - Rotary Club, Mangalore Port town welcomed the guests and participants. Student’s leader Kumari Poorvi spoke about the purpose of the Meet. Shri Kiran Prasad Rai, Rotarian, Assistant Governor, RI Dist. 3181, Zone-2 administered the pledge to all the Integrity Club members.

While speaking on the occasion Shri Srikrishna Karuturi, ITS, CVO NMPT complimented the organisers, namely MRPL and Rotary Club for bringing together good number of children from different schools and colleges. He also expressed his gratitude for roping in NMPT as a joint organiser. He appreciated the concept of Integrity Club, the process of inculcation of integrity in the minds of young budding children. Whenever there is pressure to do something wrong, we should stand by our integrity and honesty, he said.

While speaking on the occasion Shri Aswath, Chief Engineer (Civil), NMPT said that corruption happens in different areas in life. However, ‘the misuse of public position for direct or indirect personal gain’ is corruption. He cited examples of recent bank scams and how the business was affected due to this. He touched upon introduction of GST and its impact on the economy.

While speaking on the occasion Shri Rajeev Kushwah, ITS, CVO MRPL, said corruption and Integrity are just opposite to each other. If you have absolute integrity, then there is no corruption. The personal integrity once established, people starts respecting you, he said. They put their trust in you that you will do the right thing every time, he concluded.

While speaking on the occasion DGM - Vigilance, Shri K Upendra Rao quoted some real life examples of the schools of North Eastern states, where the integrity was held high.

Guest of honour Shri. BHV Prasad, GGM (HR), MRPL said that the world is moving towards artificial intelligence, so the children need to equip themselves the contemporary education along with the most traditional system. He appealed students to develop good hobbies in addition to their regular studies.

Shri Vasu Naik, Rotarian proposed the vote of thanks. Shri Rajendra P and Smt Poornima Kaulagi compered the whole proceedings.

After the formal inauguration of the Seminar and the Integrity Clubs, training session started with Magic Show by renowned magician Shri Kudroli Ganesh. During the Magic Show he demonstrated the techniques of Integrity to accomplish the goals by giving some examples of Japanese culture.

During the second session Prof. Manoj Louise, of Govt. junior College, Kavoor conducted and demonstrated the activities on how to build team spirit among the students and on how to contribute effectively as a member of the group.

On this occasion, an essay writing competition was conducted and about 30 students participated in this competition. The prizes were distributed to the winners.

In the concluding session, students interacted and shared their views on the seminar. Shri Sharath Budale, CGM - ISD, MRPL graced the occasion in the final session.

In the end the members of the integrity club were taken inside the NMPT port for the site visit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Walkathon as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week

A walkathon was arranged in association with Govinda Dasa PU College at Surathkal on 1st November 2018. Shri M Venkatesh, our Managing Director, Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO, Shri BHV Prasad, GGM HR flagged off the event. A large members from MRPL employees and college students participated in the walkathon. A Street-play depicting the ill effects of corruption was staged near Surathkal flyover, by the students of Govinda Dasa College.

Vendors’ Meet as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week

A vendors’ meet was organised in MRPL Employees Recreation Centre on 30th October 2018, as a part of the Vigilance Awareness Week. More than 500 vendors from different parts of Karnataka and neighbouring states participated in the meet.

 

Shri VNS Venkatramana, CGM - Materials welcomed the gathering.

Shri K Upendra Rao, DGM Vigilance briefed on transparency in the tendering process and timely processing of bills. He also highlighted on the GeM, the National Public Procurement Portal, how the vendors could be benefitted by the site.

Shri T Ramakrishna, GGM – Maintenance spoke on the occasion and briefed on the initiatives, developments and emerging trends in public procurements. He appealed vendors to render timely good service and MRPL will reciprocate positively, he assured.

Later presentation on various topics were organized;

 

    • Shri Venugopal VJ, Chief Manager (Materials), gave a presentation with respect to MRPL perspective on Initiatives, Developments and Emerging trends in Public Procurement and also explained on E-Tendering, On-line Vendor Registration and Vendor Bill tracking System.

 

    • Shri. Madhusudhan Goud from Axis Bank, gave a presentation on TReDS (Trade Receivables & Discounting System), a new concept by RBI to facilitate financing of Trade Receivables of MSMEs from multiple financiers through online bidding process.

 

    • Shri. Nanda Gopal Shenoy, Chartered Accountant, presented on ‘Goods & Service Tax – A way ahead’.

 

    • Shri Socrates, Dy Director - MSME presented on benefits available for MSME vendors. He complimented MRPL for the increased number of vendors gathered for the Vendor Meet. He also appealed vendors to go for the production of next generation goods.

 

    • Shri. Munish Sharma, Assistant Manager – NSIC briefed on how NSIC(National Small Industries Corporation) is helpful for the small budding industries.

A very useful interactive session followed in which many vendors raised various queries and concerns. Shri. Pankaj Agarwal, GGM (Materials) and Shri. V.N.S. Venkatramana, CGM (Materials) answered the queries related to Procurement and Tendering. Shri B Ramesh Kumar, CGM (Admn- Contract Cell, Logistics, OL & Security) responded to the queries related to Statutory Compliances and Security Pass.

Shri Suresh.K.Rao, CGM (Materials) proposed the vote of thanks. The program was compered by Shri B Sandeep Naik, CGM (Marketing Operation). Material Department took a lead to organize this Meet which turned out to be a successful event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge

On the occasion of 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge was administered today in different departments and offices of MRPL. In the Pledge ceremony held in the Administration Building Smt Veena Shetty, Chief Manager – CSR, Smt Lalita Pandey, Chief Manager- Finance and Shri S Raviprasad, GGM-Internal Audit administered the pledge in Kannada, Hindi & English respectively. Shri Budhi Ram Pal, Sr. Manager – OL compered the programme. Ekta Run was organised in front of Admin Building immediately after the Pledge ceremony.

Inaugural Ceremony of Vigilance Awareness Week

The inauguration ceremony of Vigilance Awareness Week was held in Training Centre on 29th October 2018. The programme began with lighting of lamp by the dignitaries, namely Shri M Venkatesh, our Managing Director, Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO, Shri Manoj Chakravarti, COO, Centre for Corporate Governance & Citizenship, IIM – Bangalore and Senior Management personnel present there.

 

Shri BHV Prasad, GGM-HR welcomed the gathering. The Vigilance pledge wasadministered in Kannada, Hindi and English by Shri M Venkatesh, our Managing Director, Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO and Shri S Bandyopadhyay, GGM – Finance respectively. Shri M Vinayakumar, GGM I/C Refinery, TS & MO read out the message from President of India, Ms Vanita Kumar, GGM - OMC Sales readthe message of Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Seetharam Rai, President MSAread the message from Minister of State PMO, Personnel, Public grievances & Pensions. Shri Sudhendu, President - MEU read out the message from Central Vigilance Commissioner.

Shri K Upendra Rao, DGM – Vigilance gave the overview of activities planned for the week.

Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO spoke on the occasion and said that we should cultivate a habit of rewarding our children when they do well instead of getting the work done by the child as a favour for a promised gift. ‘Vigilance’ helps management in removing the possibility of corruption, he remarked.

Shri Manjunatha HV, Chief Manager – Vigilance introduced the Chief Guest for the programme Shri Manoj Chakravarti.

Shri Manoj Chakravarti while speaking on the occasion said that amassing wealth alone would land oneself in trouble and such big tycoons are not the happy human beings. Information Technology has removed the middlemen in many sectors and has simplified the life, he felt. He quoted a case of false claim, which appears to be a petty offence, but as it is an integrity issue, the punishment for the same is severe, he remarked. He also highlighted one’s ethical role as an employee of an organisation in case of any emergency by quoting ‘Taj - Mumbai’ incident. He concluded by remembering the lyrics of Tagore ‘अक्ला चलो.....’ appealed to keep doing the right thing even if you are alone.

Shri M Venkatesh, Managing Director said that MRPL is a family of 2000 employees and 5000 contract employees and we have a culture of our own. When there is fire inside the refinery, our person on ground takes the decision which is very critical and we all stand by that decision and we have won each time, he asserted. Always take a decision, not taking a decision does more harm than taking a decision which may go wrong later, remarked our MD. Decide and empower to decide, encouraged MD, do not scare others from taking decisions and doing their work, he cautioned.

Ms Lekshmi M Kumaran, CGM-HR proposed the vote of thanks. Shri Nagaraj Bhat, Manager – Vigilance compered the programme. Ms Vasudha from HR chanted the invocation. The employees in large numbers attended the programme. The programme was also covered in the All india Radio. Vigilance Manual for Employees was released during the programme and a Mobile Van for the Vigilance Awareness during the week was flagged off by the dignitaries.
