The inauguration ceremony of SAKSHAM 2019 (16.1.2019 – 15.2.2019) in MRPL was held in Training Centre on 16.1.2019.

Oil Conservation Pledge was administered in Hindi, English and Kannada by Shri Chander Mani, CGM (Projects Commercials), Shri Deepak Prabhakar, CGM – Corporate Strategy and Shri Sushil Chandra, GGM – Corporate Strategy respectively.

Shri SP Kamath, CGM – PE & Production Planning gave the overview of the Saksham 2019 and requested employees and their dependents to participate actively in Saksham Cycle Day and the competitions and activities concerning to Saksham.

Shri T Ramakrishna, GGM – Maintenance read out the Petroleum Minister’s message. Shri BHV Prasad, GGM - HR read out the message from Secretary - MoPNG.

Shri Devdas Shenoy K, GGM I/c Operation spoke on the occasion and said we need to play our role in oil conservation by regulating the steam leak, enhancing the insulation effectiveness and minimising unknown fuel loss. Everyone has the responsibility towards energy conservation and contribute towards country’s growth, he remarked.

Shri M Vinayakumar, GGM I/c Refinery spoke on the occasion and said that not only oil and gas, every energy need to be conserved. The share of oil in total energy consumption is about 34% which is likely to come down in the coming years but its consumption in terms of volume would go up, he envisaged. We need to look for the renewable sources of energy but we can’t rely much on solar energy and so is the lithium which has its own limitation, he said. But the lasting solution for our energy concern is the Nuclear fusion. By 2035 we should be able to convert Nuclear Fusion into useful energy supplies, he remarked. After the Paris convention there are stringent norms for the energy conservation and there are penalties for not complying energy efficiency criteria, he remarked.

Shri Rajeev Kushwah, CVO said that our energy consumption has increased multi folds over the years. India is 3rd in total energy consumption but we are far behind in our energy per capita. Our energy reliance has two effects, one on our economy and the other on our health and environment, he said. As 80% of our crude requirement is imported we need to be cautious in helping our nation to reduce our reliability on imported crude, he said. One month of awareness should be able to create a desired change in us and people around us, he felt.
