57th HR Summit of Oil and Gas PSUs was organized by MRPL at TMA Pai Convention Centre, Mangaluru on 12th, 13th and 14th September 2019.
The Summit started with the welcome address by Shri BHV Prasad, GGM – HR, who elaborated on the theme ‘Wings Within - Fuelling Passion’. He said that the passion need not be about work alone, it could be a hobby or a sport. But we need to arouse passion among employees to excel and deliver their best to the organization, he said., Shri Ranjan Kumar, Director-HR, IOCL, spoke on the occasion and said that everyone has wings within them and it is the job of HR to identify the talent of each and every one, ignite passion and get the desired output for the development of the organization. HR is not Human Resources alone but it is the heart of the organization, he opined.
Shri M Venkatesh, our Managing Director, while speaking on the occasion said that the passion needs to be there at every level in the organization and the operators who are on the job in the refinery units as the frontline soldiers play a key role in smooth operation and safeguarding of our installations. He elaborated this with a CCTV video of our refinery in which the response of our alert operators helped in taking control of the fire in one of the process units. The passion of our employees can take any organization to the next level, he said.
Shri Pusph Joshi, Director HR, HPCL, chaired the first session and Shri Prabir Jha, a renowned HR professional, spoke on the five elements of good leadership, namely, Passion, Vulnerability, Curiosity, Risk Taking Ability and Gratitude. Unless you have the passion to do any assigned job, it is difficult for others to be passionate about you, he remarked. Dr. Alka Mittal, Director HR, ONGC, Shri P.K.Gupta, Director HR-GAIL, Shri VC Bhandari, Director - HR, EIL and Shri Ratna Sekhar, Director – HR, Balmer Laurie & Co. Ltd, chaired the various sessions. HR Teams from IOCL, GAIL, Balmer Laurie & Co. Ltd, EIL, BPCL, CPCL, HPCL and OIL presented on various relevant topics.
Dr. Manab Bose, Adjunct Professor of IIM Udaipur, who was a keynote speaker, elaborated on Public Leadership and Organization Psychodynamics. He explained that the senior executive posts of PSUs are Public Leadership positions as PSUs serve public and impact the economy of the nation. The Organization Psychodynamics deals with identifying the toxicity within the organizations and helps in addressing this toxicity. He elaborated on how the Personal Growth Labs inspire, influence, coach and mentor the employees and could help in a long way in removing the toxicity in the Organization.
Shri Manoj Barthwal, ED – Head of Institute, ONGC Training Academy, presented about Passion for Adventures. He elaborated on ONGC organized Para-games and ONGC’s Himalayan Expedition. The clippings on Mount Everest expedition 2017 and Kanchenjunga Expedition 2018 were displayed to understand how the passion was transformed into success. Ms Meenakshi G, Manager – HR, MRPL, took everyone through the journey of land loser families transforming into useful contributors to the organization and expressed her gratitude to MRPL.
Dr Zubin Mulla, Professor, TISS, Mumbai gave a keynote address on how HR could be a business partner and strategic contributor. He elaborated on how HR in PSUs could play an important role in view of reduction / uncertainty in energy demand, demographic changes, technology disruptions, Globalization, entry of foreign players and privatization. Shri B Ramesh Kumar, CGM HR, summarised the proceedings in the end and also proposed the Vote of Thanks. Shri M Venkatesh, our Managing Director handed over the baton for next HR summit to Ms Rashmi Govil, CGM – HR of IOCL.
As a part of the summit, A Director’s conclave was also held separately. Some of the senior members of HR fraternity of Oil and Gas PSUs were felicitated on the occasion. Mr Mathias Praveen Pinto, Manager – Vigilance compered for the entire event along with Ms Saujanya Hegde, a Television anchor. A magnificent display of Tableaus of DK culture further added glamour to the well-crafted event. The delegates, from different Oil PSUs from various corners of the country, complimented Team MRPL for organising the event in an excellent manner.
