Occupational Health at MRPL

  • All safety measures required at Petroleum Refinery are implemented and maintained as per the norms prescribed by Chief Controller of Explosives, Govt. of India, Oil Industry Safety Directorate, Factories Act, as well as international standard practices.
  • Work environment, Air quality, Noise and Safety parameters (occupational exposure) monitoring at regular intervals are being carried out.
  • Awareness programs about occupational Health & safety aspects at petroleum refinery (unit wise), potential accidents and the associated risks etc.
  • Regular Training Programs are conducted for all employees on Health, Safety, firefighting, necessity and use of personal protective equipment, Emergency mock drills etc.
  • Safety and Environment Audits are conducted regularly by external agencies including Oil Industry Safety Directorate. The recommendations emerging out of audit studies are implemented on a priority basis.

Occupational Health Centre

MRPL has three Occupational Health Centers (OHC) within the premises headed by the Chief Medical Officer. All the three occupational health care centers are round the clock manned by teams of experienced doctors and paramedical staff.

  • Emergency ward.
  • Recovery ward.
  • Round-the-clock Nursing and medical attendant care.
  • Shower facility and Diphoterine kits for Chemical burns.
  • Emergency Pharmacy and specific antidotes.

Occupational Health and Safety Plan

Regular health checkups of all employees and contract workers are carried out as per provisions of the Factory Act and OISD guidelines. Details of the medical tests conducted are as under:

Medical Examination:

  • Periodic Medical Examination including medical parameters, HB, TC, DC, ESR, RBS, FBS, PPBS, Lipid profile, Urine Routine, Urea, Creatinine, Urine Analysis, Vision Tests, Spirometry, X-Ray besides physical examination and CVS risk analysis.
  • TMT & Echocardiography.
  • Pap smear.
  • Special Eye Testing: visual acuity and color vision tests are being carried out for drivers operating inside MRPL.
  • Audiometry Tests: Audiometry tests are being carried out for all exposed groups.
  • Canteen Employees Medical Examination: General Check-up, Cholesterol, X-ray, ECG, HBSAg, HB, TC, DC, ESR, U.A., HIV, VDRL.
  • Benzene in Urine using advanced Gas Chromatograph: urine phenol tests are conducted to assess exposure to harmful chemicals especially those with benzene.
  • Medical check-up for contract workmen including various tests similar to those for employees.
  • First aid training of all employees, including the secondary workforce at regular intervals.
  • CPR training for all.
