MRPL contributes Rs.20 Lakhs to Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) towards road repair work from Surathkal to MRPL. A cheque was handed over by Shri B H V Prasad GM-I/c HR to Mayor, Commissioner MCC in the presence of Mangalore City North Hon’ble MLA Shri B. A. Mohiuddin Bava.
Nagaland Governor Shri Padmanabha B Acharya visited MRPL on 23-12-2016. Director Refinery Shri M. Venkatesh, Director Finance Shri A. K. Sahoo, Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Y. Ravindranath and GM-I/c HR Shri B.H.V. Prasad warmly welcomed the Governor to MRPL.
Team MRPL presented a short presentation on MRPL to the dignitary. CEO OMPL Shri Sushil Shenoy and other GGM’s were present during the meeting. Later Director Refinery accompanied the Governor for a plant visit. The Governor, who hails from Udupi, appreciated the greenery in MRPL and complimented Team MRPL for their excellent performance and hospitality.
MRPL in coordination with Centre for High Technology (CHT) conducted ‘First Activity Meet’ on ‘Electrical Safety and Reliability of Electrical Systems’ on 15th – 16th December 2016 in Ocean Pearl Hotel, Mangalore.
45 delegates from different refineries and industries took part in the programme. Shri H Kumar, our Managing Director and other senior officers of MRPL were present during the inauguration of the meet. CHT top officials, namely, Shri Brijesh Kumar, ED and Shri Santosh K Varshney, Joint Director also participated in the programme.
Engineers from different Refineries shared their knowledge on the subject through case studies and presentations. They shared their experiences of Electrical failures and Reliability of Electrical Systems. There was enough interaction at the end of each presentation.
The Electrical Maintenance Department of MRPL coordinated and executed the event with precision which was appreciated by all.
The Valedictory ceremony of Security Awareness Week was held in the Training Centre on 16.12.2016. Shri B Ramesh Kumar, GM Security and Logistics welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest Shri Chandra Sekhar, IPS, IGP & Commissioner of Police Mangalore City.
Shri Chandra Sekhar, IPS while speaking on the occasion said that in security matters, every crisis situation is different and there is no readymade solution for every security issue. He stressed on the requirement of Standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the necessity to follow them scrupulously. In PSUs like MRPL, he said the attention need to be given to our immediate neighbourhood and also we need to have a good coordination with local police and state government officials.
Shri M Venkatesh, Director (Refinery) spoke on the occasion and said that the consequences of an unsafe act could be overcome or controlled but if it is a security lapse then the magnitude of the damage in a refinery like ours could be huge. We have a specialized security agency like CISF to protect us but we need to remain vigilant and support them, he said.
Shri Y Ravindranath, CVO said that each one of us have a role to play in ensuring security of our organization. We need to cultivate a security culture in addition to a good security infrastructure. He concluded by complimenting the security team for having conducted the Security Awareness Week effectively.
The awards for ‘Best Security Person of the year’ among the CISF personnel and the contract security agencies were presented. The prizes for the winners in quiz competition for the employees and DPS children were also distributed.

Security Awareness Week is being organised in MRPL from 12.12.2016 to 17.12.2016. As a part of Security Awareness Campaign, a Lecture on Cyber Security by Shri Bhushan G Borase, IPS, Superintendent of Police, D.K. District was arranged in MRPL.
SP Shri Bhushan G Borase spoke on different types of cyber crimes which are prevailing in our country. He explained how weaknesses and greed make the people fall prey to these hackers. He highlighted increased threat and vulnerability due to digitization and more online transactions. He encouraged everyone to opt for chip based ATM cards and advised not to store password and PIN numbers in our smart phones. He elaborated the likely threats to the Oil Industry like MRPL and suggested methods to protect ourselves from the cyber crimes.
Shri Bhushan G Borase, SP DK district, who is also a Chemical Engineering graduate and Ex ONGC Engineer made the MRPL executives spellbound by his presentation and imparted useful knowledge on cyber crimes. Shri H Kumar, Managing Director, MRPL and other senior officers were present during the programme.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL) conducted an onsite Mock Exercise in the refinery on 8th December 2016 in the presence of District Crisis Management Authority including Shri. Narendra Babu, Deputy Director of Factories, Directorate of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health, Mangalore. The Drill was conducted in the newly commissioned PFCC Unit, with the scenario being hydrocarbon leak followed by fire.
The exercise was carried out in the presence of various dignitaries including District Fire officer, Officials from the DC office, KSPCB, NMPT, Industry representatives from the neighbouring industries. The Mock Drill continued for about forty minutes during which fire fighting and cooling operation were carried out and readiness of the industry for handling any such emergencies was established.
Later a review meeting was held in the presence of Shri M Venkatesh, Director (Refinery) to analyse the shortcomings and lessons from the mock exercise. Shri. Narendra Babu, Deputy Director of Factories, who witnessed the Mock Drill complimented MRPL and other industry representatives for the excellent fire fighting and emergency handling abilities showcased during the Mock Drill. He acknowledged the quick response by Fire Tenders of not only MRPL, but also the Mutual Aid members OMPL, HPCL and MCF.
In his concluding remarks, Shri M Venkatesh, Director (Refinery), MRPL assured the gathering that all positive observations will be deliberated and complied with forthwith and thanked the delegates for having participated in such large numbers. He also complimented all connected with the conduct of the Mock Exercise for the excellent performance.
